Guildford Fireflies youngster starts hockey gear donation initiative

Guildford Junior Ice Hockey club’s Yaroslav Skydan has launched an exciting youth hockey gear donation initiative.

Skydan, who plays for Guildford’s U12 Fireflies, has been working to collect old and unused equipment for U10/12 players and donate it to his first club, Patriot, in Ukraine, where he began his hockey journey at the age of five.

The Ukrainian club is currently facing numerous challenges due to the ongoing war, which started over two years ago, including a shortage of new players this and last year.

One key issue for Patriot has been the lack of beginner hockey gear, which often discourages parents from enrolling their children in the sport.

Thanks to this new initiative, however, the donated gear will enable many young Ukrainian players to start playing hockey, even in the midst of the war.

This incredible venture was made possible thanks to the the support of Guildford’s players, parents, and club management, and the first shipment of gear is currently being prepared for delivery to Ukraine.
