Together As One: England Ice Hockey vote in favour of historic merger

Members clubs of England Ice Hockey (EIH) have made a bold statement for the future of UK ice hockey, by voting in favour of merging with Ice Hockey UK (IHUK) and Scottish Ice Hockey (SIH).

The outcome of the vote ensures the special resolution is passed, enabling in-depth discussions with IHUK to commence.

SIH’s members will vote later on this evening at 19:30, to decide if they will join the full-sport merger discussions.

Henry Staelens, chief executive officer at Ice Hockey UK and England Ice Hockey, commented: “This evening’s vote is a defining moment for UK ice hockey, and it has been a long time coming for many.

“EIH members have spoken clearly about the way they wish to see the sport developed and governed throughout the UK, and this is a significant step to achieving all of the opportunities that lie in front of us.

“By coming together as one, we will modernise and professionalise how the sport is run, unlock greater support for clubs and participants, and create a structure that allows ice hockey to thrive at every level. It’s exciting that we are all on this journey together.”

Duncan Hough, chair of England Ice Hockey, said: “My sincere thanks goes to the England Ice Hockey member clubs who attended the general meeting and cast their vote.

“The sport has been built on the hard work of so many brilliant people, and it is now our opportunity to deliver greater support and opportunity. The next phase of consultation will be crucial in shaping an organisation that truly delivers for players, officials, volunteers, clubs and everyone involved in the sport.”
