Blackburn Hawks Academy, a respected name in youth ice hockey, has proudly announced its rebrand to Lancashire Ice Hockey Academy (LIHA).

This strategic shift marks a bold step forward in the club’s evolution, designed to reflect its growing reach and commitment to serving young athletes across the entire county.

The transition from a Blackburn-centric identity to a broader Lancashire focus will enable the club to enhance community engagement, attract emerging talent from all corners of the county, and offer expanded opportunities for development and competition.

This exciting new chapter is being led by the Lancashire Ice Hockey Academy – an alliance of local business owners, dedicated parents and experienced coaches who now proudly own and operate the club.

United by a shared passion for grassroots sport and regional development, this new ownership group brings fresh energy, strategic vision and vital financial investment to drive sustainable growth and long-term success.

James Chetter, club director, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our history as the Hawks Academy, but now is the time to evolve.

“Lancashire Lightning is more than just a new name – it’s a statement of intent. We want to inspire the next generation of hockey players from across the region.”

Under this new structure, the academy’s teams will now compete as Lancashire Lightning. Alongside the rebrand, the club has introduced a dynamic new coaching framework.

Current and former league players, along with experienced recreational coaches, are combining their expertise to deliver a forward-thinking, player-focused training environment.

With clear development pathways to senior teams at all levels, Lancashire Lightning is committed to nurturing talent and ambition throughout the region.

The rebrand also includes a new logo, updated uniforms and a revitalized digital presence. While home games and training sessions will continue at the Blackburn rink, the club’s ambitions now span the entire county of Lancashire.
