Bristol Snowdogs celebrate remarkable growth

Bristol Snowdogs, one of the UK’s fastest-growing and most dynamic grassroots ice hockey clubs, have proudly announced a major milestone, with the team expanding to 135 active players in just two seasons since its inception.

Launched with a vision to provide accessible and inclusive ice hockey opportunities for all skill levels, the Snowdogs have rapidly become a cornerstone of the Bristol hockey scene.

With a welcoming approach and strong community spirit, the club has drawn in players of all backgrounds – from complete beginners to experienced skaters returning to the ice.

“What started as a small group of passionate players has turned into something really special,” said head coach Becci Osman.

“Reaching 135 players in two seasons shows how much appetite there is for grassroots hockey in Bristol. It’s been incredible to watch the community grow.”

Alongside their sister club, Bristol Huskies, the Snowdogs are proud that a third of their players are female playing in mixed leagues.

This provides coordinated progressions for the younger girls in the academy to aspire to play the sport in the higher echelons of the women’s game in the UK.

The club currently runs multiple squads, offering structured training, friendly matches and development sessions throughout the year.

The academy’s first full season playing competitive ice hockey is about to close, with better-than-anticipated results allowing them to secure their Build / Consolidate / Compete 3-5 year strategy.

Their success is driven not only by the dedication of the players, but also by the commitment of volunteer coaches, organisers, and supporters who’ve helped build a vibrant, supportive club culture.

There’s been a significant internal investment for the academy, resulting in 20+ coaches being trained throughout the current season.

Looking ahead, the Snowdogs are aiming even higher, with plans to expand their ice time, introduce youth development pathways, and take part in more tournaments across the UK and abroad.

“This is just the beginning,” said academy manager Chris

“We want to continue making the sport fun, affordable, and open to everyone – and we’re always on the lookout for new players, volunteers and partners to join the pack.”
