This coming Sunday, 27 October, MK Storm Under 16 Girls will play their first league game in more than five years.

Coached by MK Lightning legend Nick Poole, the team will be focusing on enjoyment and inclusion, aiming to increase ice hockey participation amongst girls by giving as many as possible the chance to experience competitive league hockey.

The first game of this new era will see the club face Bristol Huskies Puppies in the WNIHL U16 South.

The club have had aspirations for a girls team for a number of years, but now have enough players and the volunteer setup in place to expand the club and provide a dedicated girls team at U16 level.

They hope this will maximise the opportunities for local players, by allowing them to play the sport in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Head coach Nick Poole said: “We’re thrilled to be able to provide a dedicated team for the girls to call their own.

“It provides a platform for the girls to develop both team and individual skills, be competitive, and above all else, have fun.

“It’s great to see the girls game growing at both junior and senior level, and we hope to provide opportunities for girls in our area to try our fantastic sport.”

Sunday’s fixture has a 3:40pm face-off time at Planet Ice Bristol.

The Storm U16 Girls will play their first game back on home ice on Sunday 10 November, with Swindon Top Kittens the visitors.

The team are keen to grow, and are open to any girl aged 10-15 with ice hockey experience. For those with no experience, there are opportunities to join the team after completing a hockey excellence course with Planet Ice.
