The Christmas period in the Planet Ice NIHL National Division promises to provide plenty of league entertainment, as well as an important NIHL Cup semi-final second leg to decide who faces Romford Raiders in the final.
The festive season sees a plethora of double-headers, with Bristol Pitbulls and Swindon Wildcats opening the post-Christmas action on Friday night.
The two will have to wait until New Year’s Day to face off in Swindon, but in the meantime, both sides face Telford Tigers over the weekend. The Wildcats host Telford on Saturday, before Bristol head to Shropshire on Sunday.
League leaders MK Lightning will be eager to secure maximum points over the coming days, after a couple of split weekends recently.
Milton Keynes host the fifth-placed Peterborough Phantoms at home on Saturday, before travelling to Peterborough for the return fixture less than 24 hours later.
Hot on the league leaders’ heels are Leeds Knights. They have a two-game battle with Solway Sharks this weekend – away on Saturday before returning home to face the Sharks on Sunday evening.
Elsewhere, Berkshire Bees will be looking to build momentum after an important win against Peterborough Phantoms last weekend, with a double-header to come against Romford.
And a Yorkshire derby headlines the weekend’s games, as Sheffield Steeldogs and Hull Seahawks do battle in south Yorkshire on Saturday, before a showdown in Hull on Sunday.
As well as a full round of festive league fixtures, Sheffield Steeldogs and Leeds Knights face off in the NIHL Cup semi-finals on Tuesday 31 December.
After a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Leeds, it’s all to play for to see who will face Romford in the final.
