We’ve reached the final weekend of the regular Planet Ice NIHL National Division season, with the confirmed make-up of the playoffs still yet to be decided. 

Seven teams have already booked their place in the end-of-season finale, with Telford Tigers and Solway Sharks vying to be the eighth during Gameweek 28.

The pair meet on Sunday evening, and although Solway hold the superior head-to-head record between the two sides this season, they must defeat MK Lightning on Saturday night and hope that Telford lose at Swindon Wildcats to give themselves a fighting chance of ending the regular season in the top eight.

For Telford, a four-point weekend could see them finish the season seventh in the standings.

They currently trail Romford Raiders by three points and must hope that their rivals fail to pick up any points against MK Lightning and Bristol Pitbulls, who are bidding to avoid the wooden spoon for a second successive year.

If Romford and Telford end the regular season tied on points, the Raiders would stay above the Tigers due to having a superior head-to-head record.

Elsewhere this weekend, Leeds Knights’ league title victory parade sees them host Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday night – when they will get their hands on the trophy – before visiting fourth-placed Hull Seahawks the following evening.

Hull haven’t mathematically confirmed fourth place in the standings, with Peterborough three points behind.

Should the Phantoms defeat league champions Leeds in West Yorkshire, they could climb above the Seahawks with victory over Berkshire Bees on Sunday.

Hull, meanwhile, start their weekend in Bristol and know that victory against the Pitbulls would be enough to fend off the chasing Phantoms.
