The new Planet Ice NIHL National Division season got underway over the weekend, with Hull Seahawks and Leeds Knights leading the way after enjoying perfect starts.
The Seahawks sit top of the table with four points from four, having convincingly defeated Bristol Pitbulls home and away by an aggregate scoreline of 20-5.
Owen Sobchak starred for Hull, collecting four goals and six assists on the opening weekend.
Hot on the Seahawks’ heels are last season’s league champions Leeds, who won 8-5 at Solway Sharks on Saturday before running out 7-3 victors at home to MK Lightning the following day.
Finley Bradon impressed for the Knights, scoring a hat-trick in Dumfries then adding to his tally the following day with a goal and two assists.
It was a mixed weekend for 2023/24 play-off winners Peterborough Phantoms, who won one and lost one.
The Phantoms started their season with a 2-1 win over the newly-named Berkshire Bees, before falling to a 5-3 home defeat to Sheffield Steeldogs, in what was the South Yorkshire outfit’s only game of the weekend.
The season started on Friday night as Swindon Wildcats defeated Berkshire 6-2 at the Link Centre. They couldn’t make it a perfect weekend, however, after falling to an overtime defeat to Romford Raiders on Sunday.
The weekend ended at the Telford Ice Rink as the Tigers were narrowly beaten in a nine-goal thriller by Solway.
