Slough Spitfires admitted into NIHL 2 South

There will be a new team participating in the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) regional divisions next season after Slough Spitfires were admitted to the NIHL 2 South.

Slough’s move to introduce a new NIHL 2 team under the Slough Jets umbrella reinforces the club’s commitment to junior development and creating a clear pathway for young players progressing from junior hockey.

This exciting expansion also ensures that young players can continue their development within the Slough hockey system, bridging the gap between junior hockey and senior competition.

The Spitfires will provide a crucial stepping stone for aspiring athletes looking to make the transition to the Jets’ NIHL 1 squad while maintaining the club’s philosophy of nurturing young talent.

For supporters, Jets season ticket holders will also get free entry to all Slough Spitfires home games, giving them the opportunity to see first-hand the club’s potential stars of the future.

“We are really excited to introduce the Slough Spitfires team as part of our long-term vision for player development,” said Slough Jets head coach and director of hockey Lukas Smital.

“This move is about creating opportunities for young players to progress within our system, giving them valuable senior experience while staying within a structured and supportive environment.”

With the addition of the Spitfires ahead of the 2025/26 season, the club now offers a seamless development route from junior hockey through to the senior level, ensuring that young players have the best possible chance to reach their full potential.

Slough Jets have been working closely with Everyone Active to avoid any impact to current ice rink users and teams.

Full confirmation of the make-up of the four regional NIHL divisions will be confirmed in the coming days, with fixtures set to be released soon after.

Danny Perchard, acting NIHL general manager, said: “We are thrilled to welcome a new Slough-based team to the NIHL pyramid next season.

“With a real emphasis on the player pathway and nurturing the very best local talent, we are excited to see how the Spitfires develop over the coming months and years.

“This is a really exciting move for ice hockey in Slough and the surrounding areas, and we wish them the very best in their debut season.”
