Statement: increased collaboration between England Ice Hockey and IHUK

Following discussions between England Ice Hockey and Ice Hockey UK (IHUK), we are pleased to announce that the two organisations will enter into a shared services agreement, effective from October 2024.

The agreement will see the organisations share resources and best practices across areas such as governance, operations, performance, strategic initiatives, safeguarding and finance, to promote simplicity and collaboration, facilitate effective decision making, eliminate duplication and create cost efficiencies so that we can better invest in building for the future in areas where we will have the greatest impact on our game.

IHUK chief executive officer Henry Staelens said: “This is a really positive move for ice hockey here in the United Kingdom. It will positively impact players, coaches, fans and staff/volunteers, whilst allowing for greater investment into the game we all love.

“IHUK has significantly evolved in the past 12 months, with a new board, enhanced governance, and greater potential to deliver a very positive future for GB and our affiliates.

“Working more collaboratively and in closer partnership with EIH will allow us to support them in a more structured way as they look to push forward important improvements, under the direction of their board.”

England Ice Hockey vice-chair Duncan Hough said: “This is an exciting evolution. Working together with IHUK more collaboratively by entering into this agreement will be a critical first step to ensuring we are building for the future.

“From grassroots development to national-level competition, England Ice Hockey is where it all starts. Operating more effectively and efficiently will allow us to create better experiences at all stages of the game – from ‘learn to play’ through to developing potential superstars for Great Britain Ice Hockey, and everything in between, because our work and impact is felt by thousands of players, coaches and parents every season.

“We have a passionate board of directors who are excited by this new partnership with IHUK, that we believe will play a major part in the growth of England Ice Hockey.”

More news will follow over the coming weeks, with a full and detailed plan prior to 1 October 2024.
