England Ice Hockey can confirm that Whitley Warriors have formally notified us of their intention to join the Scottish National League (SNL) for the 2025/26 season.

Whitley Bay is one of the most respected and historically significant clubs in British ice hockey, with a legacy that includes success in the Heineken era, deep roots in Northern rivalries, and a strong tradition of player development.

While we are naturally disappointed to see the Warriors depart the NIHL, we respect their decision and the club’s ambition to take this next step.

We have worked closely with Scottish Ice Hockey to support a positive and coordinated transition, and we are confident that the move has been handled with integrity and consideration for the wider game.

Importantly, we can confirm that Whitley’s junior programme will remain affiliated with England Ice Hockey, continuing their participation in our junior league structures. This ensures ongoing consistency and opportunity for players developing through their junior pathway.

We thank Whitley Warriors for their long-standing contribution to the NIHL and wish them continued success as they begin this new chapter.
