Swindon Ice Hockey Academy to return home

Swindon Ice Hockey Academy are delighted to be returning to home ice as of Monday 18 December.

The Swindon Wildcats Ice Hockey Academy (SWIHA) is the next step on a player’s pathway after their ‘Learn to Play’ programme.

Running from U9s to U18s level, the club’s academy is a big part of their community programme, with many teams seeing multiple successes throughout the season.

Their home rink at Swindon’s Link Centre closed as the result of a flood in September, following unprecedented torrential rain overnight.

SWIHA chairman Lee Mason: “I would like to thank Michelle Leigh and Sharon Dudley of the EIHA for their support during this difficult period for the club.

“The whole club would like to offer special thanks to Sharon Khan of the EIHA for her tireless work in helping organising the fixtures that had to be postponed due to the closure of the rink.”

Despite the setback, SWIHA’s numbers remain strong and are higher than when the rink closed.

Mason added: “We have missed out on a period of when players join, so in January if players wish to come for a trial, please contact lee.mason@swindonwildcats.com.

“We are especially looking to boost the strength in depth of our U18s, both for our Division 1 U18 Cougars and our Division 2 U18 Lions and are also looking to build up our U10s players.”
