Telford Tigers head coach Tom Watkins has reached a remarkable milestone, taking charge of his 800th game for the club.
The achievement cements his place as one of the longest-serving and most successful coaches in British ice hockey.
Watkins, who first joined the Tigers as a player before stepping into coaching, has guided the Shropshire side through some of its greatest modern-day triumphs.
Under his leadership, the Tigers have lifted four league championships, two cup titles and a North Playoff crown, establishing themselves as one of the dominant forces in the NIHL.
Beyond the silverware, Watkins has built a reputation for consistency, resilience and player development. He has overseen the rise of countless homegrown talents while also maintaining the Tigers’ competitive edge against some of the best teams in the country.
Reflecting on the milestone, Watkins paid tribute to everyone involved in the club’s journey, saying: “Reaching 800 games is a proud moment, but it’s not just about me.
“It’s about the players, the backroom staff, the fans and the entire Tigers community who’ve made it possible. I’m grateful to have had the chance to be part of this club’s history and hopefully there are many more big moments to come.”
Telford Tigers supporters have long praised Watkins not only for his tactical acumen but also for his loyalty and passion for the club.
His 800-game landmark, which came against Basingstoke Bison at the end of September, highlights his commitment and the trust the organisation has placed in him over more than a decade in charge.
As the Tigers look ahead to the rest of the season, Watkins’ milestone serves as both a celebration of past successes and a reminder of the ambitions still to come, and everyone at England Ice Hockey congratulates him on reaching 800 games behind the bench.
