The UK Ice Hockey Foundation (UKIHF), affiliated to Ice Hockey UK (IHUK), is pleased to announce the appointments of Colin Grubb and Davey Lawrence as regional goaltending development coaches, further strengthening the Foundation’s national goaltending framework.
The appointments further strengthen the Foundation’s national goaltending framework, supporting the work of Euan King, national manager of goaltending development and co-national manager of hockey development, as UKIHF continues to build a structured, consistent, and accessible goaltending pathway across the home nations.
As part of its continued expansion of regional delivery, UKIHF will announce the appointment of a third regional goaltending coach for the England (south region) in the coming months, further strengthening support for clubs, coaches and players across the country.
A former professional goaltender and highly respected international coach, Grubb brings over 25 years of experience across elite performance, coach education, and grassroots development in both the UK and United States.
His appointment aligns with the Foundation’s commitment to delivering a structured, consistent goaltending pathway aligned with ice hockey’s national development strategy.
Previously, Grubb had served as goalie coach in chief for USA Hockey’s Rocky Mountain District and as a USA hockey coach education program presenter.
In partnership with Ice Hockey UK, he will lead regional goaltending development across Scotland and Northern Ireland, supporting young goaltenders, mentoring coaches, and working with clubs to establish clear, age-appropriate development pathways grounded in long-term athlete development principles.
A product of the Sheffield junior system, Davey Lawrence brings extensive experience across elite playing, coaching, and player development within the England and Great Britain pathways.
He progressed through every level of the game in Sheffield, reaching the Elite League with the Sheffield Steelers, and represented Great Britain at U18 and U20 level, winning gold and Goaltender of the Tournament at U20, while also attending senior national team camps.
Transitioning into coaching, Lawrence has played a key role in the development of goaltending in Leeds, coaching with the junior programme since its inception and joining the Leeds Knights following COVID.
He currently serves as Leeds Knights goaltending coach, NIHL 1 head coach, NIHL assistant coach, and goaltending and video coach with Great Britain U20s and GB U18 Women, while also acting as EIH goaltending lead, supporting goaltender and coach development across the north and Midlands in alignment with the Foundation’s national development framework.
Kevin McLaughlin, head of hockey development at UKIHF, said: “These appointments represent another important step in building a national goaltending system that is aligned, consistent, and accessible.
“Colin and Davey bring outstanding experience and credibility, and their work alongside Euan will have a meaningful impact on clubs, coaches, and young goaltenders across the UK.”
