Billingham Junior Stars coach Brian Pickup has been chosen as our latest England Ice Hockey Volunteer of the Month!
Brian is the lead coach for the club’s ‘Learn Hockey’ programme – an initiative which provides a stepping stone for individuals wishing to get involved with the sport.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Brian has been a key figure behind the growth of the Stars’ junior setup, giving up much of his free time to provide opportunities for others to play the sport he loves.
Not only has Brian overseen the growth of the club’s ‘Learn Hockey’ initiative, many of those players have gone on to play for the club’s age group teams, demonstrating the positive impact he has had on the young players within Billingham’s junior division.
Those who nominated Brian spoke of his passion, commitment, effort and humour, which is welcomed by players and coaches alike.
By providing a fun and welcoming environment, he has without doubt had a huge impact on young players taking their first steps into the sport across Billingham and the surrounding areas, and we wholeheartedly commend his efforts towards growing the sport.
