iceSheffield to host International Development Festival of Hockey

Later this month, iceSheffield will host a special event which will welcome players from England, Scotland, Belgium and Luxembourg for an action-packed four days of hockey.

The event, turning iceSheffield into a mini international stage from December 20-23, will see players from the England National Team Programme’s (ENTP) U15 Boys and U16 Girls sides participate in games including players from the aforementioned three nations.

It will be a four-day showcase packed with competitive games, learning and new friendships – on and off the ice.

This event will build upon the success of a similar event in Belgium over the summer which saw England’s boys team represent their country in Mechelen.

This time, the event has grown to include athletes from the girls pathway.

Players will be trained and assessed by coaches before being drafted into four representative teams, enabling them to compete and develop over the four-day event.

We will also be welcoming Scotland’s U13 national team, who will take on the England U13s side who will represent England at the 66th edition of Pee-Wee Quebec this coming February.

During the event, the on-ice action will be officiated by referees from Ice Hockey UK (IHUK) and the Royal Belgian Ice Hockey Federation (RBIHF).

Event summary

  • U15 Boys (players born in 2011): England, Scotland and Belgium facing off across multiple games.
  • U16 Girls (players born in 2010, 2011 & 2012): Players from the four nations will train together before being drafted into mixed teams for a four-day tournament experience.
  • England’s U13 Boys (players born in 2013): They will face their counterparts from Scotland over a two-game series.

Players from England and Scotland will be monitored during the event, with a view to being part of potential GB Futures events.

GB staff will also be on-hand across the event, working with benches, supporting the on-ice programme and sharing best practice with our partners from Scotland, Belgium and Luxembourg.

How to watch

This will be a free-to-attend event for spectators.

It is also hoped that games will be streamed live. This will be confirmed in due course.
