Steelkings crowned BPIHL play-off champions

Sheffield Steelkings beat Cardiff Huskies 3-1 and were crowned 2023 British Para Ice Hockey League champions on Sunday.

Four teams – the Huskies, Steelkings, Sheffield Steelstings and Peterborough Phantoms – reached the end-of-season finals, which took place at Cardiff Bay’s Vindico Arena last weekend.

Saturday saw the two semi-finals take place, with the Huskies and Steelkings advancing to Sunday’s winner-takes-all showdown after 5-1 and 8-2 wins respectively.

On Sunday, the Phantoms kicked off the action with a 3-0 win over the Steelstings as they were triumphant in the third place match.

Then in the showpiece BPIHL Grand Final, the Steelkings came out on top and upset a Huskies side that had won all eight of their regular season games and came into the event as the current BPIHL title-holders.

Sunday’s final concluded a wonderful season in the BPIHL, and we’d like to thank all five teams who competed throughout 2023.
