Chelmsford Women’s Ice Hockey club have updated their name!
Due to the growth of the female game and the increasing number of players within Chelmsford, the club saw it became apparent that a new name was needed.
CWIHC continues to go from strength to strength and has grown significantly in the past two years.
This season, they will continue to build on the female game. To do this, they have started a ‘Learn to Play’ programme for girls and women over the age of 14 to go on and develop through their teams.
The club has gone from the one team – the Cobras (WNIHL1), founded in 1987 – to include the Pythons (WNIHL2), born in 2022.
A third team, the Adders, were created in 2023. It has taken some time to build, but this season, they will be at a full capacity for the Frank Wright Conference.
Discussing the recent changes, Chelmsford said: “We are so proud to have named the conference after Frank for all his hard work and dedication to our club.
“We will continue to feed brand-new players into the Adders team from the new ‘Learn to Play’ programme and watch female ice hockey in the south grow.
“We count ourselves very lucky in Chelmsford to have such a great support network around us, from our sponsors, Women’s Institute and Andrew Burgess, and also Riverside Leisure Centre who have been phenomenal in their support, and as we continue to grow and produce national-level female ice hockey players.
“The future is bright for Chelmsford Women as we embark on our development campaign to keep female ice hockey in the south at an all-time high.
