NIHL round-up | 1-3 March

Leeds Knights maintained their lead at the top of the Planet Ice NIHL National Division standings, on a weekend where three of the top four enjoyed perfect weekends.

The Knights remain eight points clear, after Saturday’s 5-2 victory at Solway Sharks was followed up by a high-scoring 9-7 win at home to Swindon Wildcats.

Second-placed MK Lightning kept place with the table-toppers, having kicked off the latest weekend’s action with a 4-1 win away at fellow top-four hopefuls Peterborough Phantoms on Friday night.

Lightning backed that up with a 3-0 victory at home to Telford Tigers the following day to go 2/2 over the weekend.

Below them, the Wildcats endured a difficult weekend, losing a shoot-out at home to Bees IHC on Saturday before their loss at the Knights the following day.

Hull Seahawks scored 17 goals over the weekend, meanwhile, as they swept aside Raiders IHC 10-4 on Saturday before overcoming the Phantoms 7-1 on Sunday.

In the weekend’s other notable results, Bees IHC boosted their play-off hopes with back-to-back wins over Swindon and Bristol Pitbulls – the former a 6-5 shoot-out victory – while Raiders IHC kept hold of seventh place in the standings thanks to a 7-3 win at home to Solway Sharks on Sunday.
