Nottingham Lions youngster sets new points record

Nottingham Lions’ Alex Rushby has set a new record for points by a player under the age of 18 in the NIHL Division 1.

Brynley Capps’ tally of 67 points was set in 2023/24 with Romford Buccaneers, but with 75 points (33 goals and 42 assists), Rushby has surpassed that number by some distance.

Rushby turned 16 in the summer of 2024 and Lions coach Matt Bradbury had no hesitation giving the forward his senior debut.

Forming a great partnership with veteran import Ales Padelek, Rushby has led the line with aplomb all year, leading the Lions in scoring, one point ahead of Padelek, and proving a genuine scoring threat at all times, regardless of the opponent.

A Great Britain U16 international in 2023/24, Rushby has come through the Nottingham junior ranks and picked up Conference and Showcase honours along the way.

This season he has also played three games in the Planet Ice NIHL National Division with Bristol Pitbulls, and everyone at England Ice Hockey would like to congratulate him on an outstanding season so far.
