Earlier this month, around 50 young female ice hockey players took to the iceSheffield rink, as part of our hugely successful “This Girl Can” event.
The event coincided with our England National Team Programme (ENTP) camps, which were taking place at the same venue across January 18-19.
The “This Girl Can” event – which was open to girls who had not previously been part of our U15s or U13s national programme or were released from the process at trials earlier this season – was led by current ENTP girls coaches who put the players through their paces.
It also provided an opportunity for aspiring young female hockey players to gain first-hand experience of a national team environment as we continue to try and support the progression of our stars of the future.
Martin Peters, board member responsible for junior hockey and the Elite Player Pathway, said: “It was fantastic to be able to welcome so many talented young women to our “This Girl Can” event at iceSheffield.
“Seeing the rink filled with such enthusiastic young women demonstrated the success of the event from an organisational perspective, and the feedback we received from parents and the girls themselves emphasised how much they took away from the day.
“Providing a national team environment for girls at this stage of their development is wholly beneficial, and we are excited to run further events like this when ice is available.”
