Our heartfelt congratulations go to Erin Rose, a very worthy recipient of our England Ice Hockey Volunteer of the Month award for December.
Since first asking for nominations back in March, no individual has been put forward more times than Erin.
That is a testament to Erin’s hard work in establishing Adam’s Angels, a charity which has sought to provide every ice hockey club across the country with access to a catastrophic bleed kit.
The idea came after the tragic loss of Adam Johnson in October 2023.
Erin, who acts as a sports therapist for Planet Ice NIHL National Division side Romford Raiders and is also involved with other clubs, responded to his passing with the initial aim of getting more medical personnel into teams across the UK.
She subsequently set up the charity Adam’s Angels, raising more than £18,000 in around five months.
Proceeds from the fundraising activities enabled Adam’s Angels to supply bleed kits to teams, and following a social media campaign, they were initially able to supply around five leagues across the men’s and women’s game.
Erin continued her mission of wanting to impact as many clubs as possible, and through the support of sponsors and the wider ice hockey community, they have since been able to provide catastrophic bleed kits to clubs from the elite game down to grassroots and junior level.
To date, almost 200 teams have benefitted from the work of Erin and Adam’s Angels.
The success of the initiative also saw Erin nominated for a BBC Radio London Make a Difference Award, recognising the work of outstanding individuals from the capital.
Adam’s Angels were chosen as the charity beneficiary of last season’s NIHL regional playoff finals, and thanks to the support of spectators over the weekend, more than £1,000 was raised to further support their work.
Erin and the Adam’s Angels team are currently crowdfunding to raise enough money to provide the same life-saving medical equipment to all recreational ice hockey and university ice hockey teams in the UK. Donations can be made here.
Her efforts have been described as “heroic”, “selfless” and “life-changing” by those nominating her, and we are proud to take a moment to congratulate Erin on all she has done for the sport.
