Ice Hockey UK (IHUK), England Ice Hockey (EIH), and Scottish Ice Hockey (SIH) are pleased to announce the final roster for the GB Futures Under-16 (2010-born) team, selected to represent Great Britain Futures at the upcoming Four Nations Tournament in Tallinn, Estonia.
The tournament, which runs from 25–31 August 2025, will see Great Britain face off against Latvia, Estonia and Hungary, offering an exciting international test for this age group and a key step in their development pathway.
The team was selected following a two-day national development camp held this week — which brought together 54 of the top U16 players from across the home nations. The players participated in three on-ice sessions, including a final full game, as well as off-ice learning and development sessions.
The GB Futures programme is a new collaborative initiative between IHUK, EIH and SIH, designed to align and strengthen the national development pathway. It connects talent identification and coaching networks across the UK, while giving young athletes the opportunity to represent Great Britain and develop toward formal IIHF competition.
The camp was led by General Manager Kevin McLaughlin (Head of Hockey Development, UK Ice Hockey Foundation), with coaching delivered by a high-calibre GB Men’s team staff including Euan King (GB Men’s Assistant Coach and Cardiff Devils Goalie Coach), Stephen Murphy (former GB national goaltender), and Aaron Greger (Scotland Ice Hockey Coach).
Adding further inspiration and insight was Liam Kirk, a trailblazer for British ice hockey as the first English-born and trained player to be drafted into the NHL, who spent time with the players throughout the camp.
“This was a special few days,” said Kevin McLaughlin. “The standard was exceptional, the players gave everything, and they should all be proud of how they represented themselves. This is only the beginning — they’re all part of the GB Futures programme and we look forward to seeing them grow.”
The players selected for the Estonia tournament will now begin preparations for international competition, while those not selected will remain actively involved in the GB Futures programme, with more development opportunities planned for the 2025–26 season.
IHUK, EIH and SIH would like to thank all 54 players who took part in this inaugural camp — your work ethic, attitude and passion for the game made this a milestone moment. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the parents and guardians who made sacrifices to attend and support their children’s development. The success of this programme depends on the strength of our entire hockey community.
