Congratulations to Billingham Stars’ Kay Deen, March’s England Ice Hockey Volunteer of the Month.
Kay has been involved with the Stars for many years, and during that time she has worn many different hats.
However, all those who nominated her were quick to point out that she epitomises everything great about the Stars – described by one as the “voice of the Billingham supporters”.
On a home matchday, she helps out on the Billingham Stars Supporters Club merchandise stall whilst vocally selling raffle tickets, as she will also do during the period breaks at games. For away games, she keeps everyone updated with the live score updates, ensuring supporters don’t miss a moment of the action.
She also helps steward at full-capacity games, ensuring all seats are used so that everyone can enjoy the hockey.
Kay’s duties are wide-ranging, but she always carries them out with a smile on her face and does what she does for nothing other than the joy of helping to provide a friendly and welcoming environment for all those who visit the Billingham Forum.
Newer club supporters pointed out that Kay’s kind demeanour on a matchday enhanced their overall experience, encouraging them to attend future games.
We are proud to have such a welcoming ice hockey community, both in Billingham and beyond, and that is all thanks to the tireless work of Kay and so many others up and down the country.
Know a volunteer at your club who always goes above and beyond?
Now’s the chance to give them the praise they have always deserved, thanks to our Volunteer of the Month initiative.
